United Way of Long Island

Workforce Development Training Academy

Interested in a career in energy, renewables, or green construction?

The rapid growth of renewables depends on the industry finding enough employees with the right skills and experience. According to New York State, between now and 2027, the renewables industry will need an additional 10,000 blue-collar workers to develop, construct, operate, and maintain wind and solar plants.

The United Way of Long Island is meeting the significant challenges of hiring talent and eliminating barriers to economic advancement in the region through its Workforce Development Training Academy. Operating out of United Way’s state-of-the-art E3 SmartBuild Training Center, the academy is complete with a portable prototype wind turbine and solar array.
