Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. The Director of Operations Engineering - Datacenter Engineering will be a Mechanical or Electrical Professional Engineer with expertise in datacenter engineering. A team player able to work across a multi-disciplined engineering team and the teams operating the datacenters. Providing engineering support to Microsoft Datacenter Operations teams globally and possessing the skills to work in a fast-paced multi-project environment. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in network topologies and communication protocols for both PLC and DDC controls systems. Having a firm understanding of the electrical distribution system design, over all mechanical design topologies, monitoring requirements for mission critical applications, along with mechanical system sequence of operation requirements and monitoring of all Datacenter HVAC control systems.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to (50)%.

**Responsibilities**

The successful candidate will fulfill a technical leadership role for Microsoft as a global datacenter Director of Ops Engineering. This role is part of Datacenter Engineering and will involve supporting the Operational Engineering of Microsoft’s fleet of datacenters globally. The successful candidate will be required to lead and direct internal subject matter experts and external consultants. This role will require deep knowledge in the design and coordination of the mechanical and electrical systems, associated controls and Microsoft’s overall datacenter design topologies.

**Qualifications**

**Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 6+ years of Datacenter, mission critical or high-tech project experience.

+ 4+ years people management experience.

+ 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

**Other Requirements:**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

+ **Citizenship & Citizenship Verification:** This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or localgovernment agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a validpassport.

+ **Microsoft Cloud Background Check** : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred, not Required:**

+ Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

+ 6+ years of HVAC load calculations and psychometrics

+ 6+ years of Datacenter Electrical design systems and topologies

+ 6+ years of applied experience with building codes and regulations

+ 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).

+ Registered professional /Licensed Engineer

+ Field Engineering experience on a datacenter or mission critical site, responsible for onsite operations engineering.

+ Ability to present using the MS office suite; MS word, MS excel and MS PowerPoint.

+ AutoCAD, REVIT & BIM experience.

+ Ability to lead teams of internal and external engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments.

+ Candidate possess effective written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and maintain high quality standards, including technical report writing.

+ Able to travel domestically and internationally.

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
