Description of Job

This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor II (CSLTS II) is a Journeyman Electrician at a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility in Canon City, CO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; ensuring safe, efficient and effective electrical operations and supervision/work lead duties of assigned staff and inmates.

Position promotes the CDOC Mission, Vision and Values with integrity and commitment, creating real life work opportunities to prepare inmates for community reentry. Through conscientious observation, clear communication and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment.

Primary responsibilities:

+ Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites;

+ Clearly and accurately communicate to train staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment, chemicals and procedures;

+ Conduct work site searches, monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior;

+ Initiate verbal reprimands when warranted, and if necessary, physically control inmates with the proper application of restraints or 'use of force' techniques;

+ Provide supervision or work lead duties of assigned staff, promoting a high level of performance by setting the work standard;

+ Promote safe construction/work practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);

+ Participate in hiring process;

+ Implement (or provide worklead input) in Performance Management Program (PMP) for assigned staff;

+ Coach and mentor staff regarding agency processes, encouraging a cohesive team, career development and ensuring the completion of annual training;

+ Resolve conflict and informal grievances at the lowest level possible;

+ Ensure safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective electrical systems and their preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance;

+ Plan projects by reviewing work order, reading blueprints, anticipating challenges, researching historical data and obtaining vendor price quotes;

+ Coordinate logistical support with the other trades and shops, utilizing resources efficiently, assigning tasks, inspecting work and ensuring timely completion of projects;

+ Ensure strict compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and all other applicable regulations, policy, guidelines and standards, keeping accurate and timely records;

+ Maintain adequate inventory of supplies;

Position is subject to the following: Working additional hours/shifts to maintain safety and security; supervising/work lead duties of other crews in the absence of another supervisor and/or assisting other trades/crews on additional projects; working outside during inclement weather; climbing stairs, ladders and working in high, tight or confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

License- Active Journeyman Electrician license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).

Experience- Five (5) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and/or installations of electrical systems.

Substitutions :

Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited, non- correspondence vocational or trade school that resulted in demonstrated competencies equivalent to those learned through the required experience may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Please attach transcripts if you are using this substitution.Transcripts must include the name of the institution, your student ID #, a listing of the course curriculum, the degree earned and the date awarded.

+ Willingness and ability to effectively work with inmates, providing a skill and preparing them for community re-entry;

+ Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work in high, tight and confined spaces;

+ Determination to follow policy and provide efficient, effective service while utilizing state resources responsibly;

+ Ability to read and comprehend the English language;

+ Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;

Preferred Qualifications:

Related experience in a construction, industrial or commercial setting.

+ Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension , relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;

+ Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;

+ Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;

+ Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;

+ Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;

+ Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;

+ Swing a baton in a striking technique;

+ Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;

+ Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;

+ Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment;

+ Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security;

+ Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;

+ Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;

+ Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;

+ Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;

+ Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;

+ Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;

+ Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;

+ Willing and able to travel;

+ Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;

+ TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;

+ Employees may be required to submit to regular serial testing and reporting for COVID-19.
