**Custom Job Purpose:**

This position exists to perform skilled work involving the application and/or repair of various types of roofing.

**Essential Functions of this Job**

Installs and repairs roofs of buildings and other structures, covers roof with roofing materials such as composition, shingles or sheets, wood shingles or asphalt and gravel to make them waterproof. Keeps daily records and logs of work performed. Transports buckets of hot tar or asphalt up to roof, using pulleys or pumps and carries buckets on roof. Carries roofing material up ladder or scaffolding to roof and over roof. Observes roofs of school facilities to locate leaks. Cleans gutters and trims trees that overhang roofs. Uses and maintains tools and equipment.

Must be able to perform physical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document.

**Non-Essential Functions of this Job**

Performs other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**

Minimum three years, full-time, practical experience as a commercial roofer under a licensed roofing contractor is preferred. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, processes, material, machines and tools of the craft. Considerable knowledge of the construction and use of scaffolding, as well as the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to carry out oral instructions. Ability to keep daily records and logs. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

**Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements**

Graduation from high school, completion of GED, or trade school. Must obtain a Class B CDL driver's license within the first year to maintain continued employment and be qualified to drive a School Board Vehicle.

**Work Context:**

Ability to climb and work from scaffolding and heights. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.

**Physical Environment:**

Requires standing and sitting, and the ability to frequently lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May infrequently require lifting more than 50 pounds with assistance as needed. Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires exposure to outdoor elements, including weather changes, foliage, insects. Requires the handling and use of cleaning solvents and solutions. Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
