Job Description

This is a full-time or part-time faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.

Essential Job Functions

1. Prepares and delivers classes to undergraduate and/or graduate students.

2. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations.

3. Provides services to the university and the profession.

4. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.

Non-Essential Job Functions

1. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.

2. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Extensive knowledge in the field in which the individual will be teaching.

2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.

3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

5. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

Physical Demands

Required Education

Master’s degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required. Some fields may allow applicable practical experience to substitute for Master’s degree.

Required Experience and Training

Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree is preferred. Experience teaching at a university level is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Other Specifications

Master’s degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred. Five years of teaching experience or five years of field experience working as a construction manager, consulting work in the field of construction management or related position is preferred. Community college or university teaching experience is preferred. Professional registration/licensure ( CPC , DBIA , PE, AIA , LEED , PMP , JD, etc.) is preferred.

Desired areas of interest include construction process and documentation, cost estimating, scheduling, surveying, project management, construction materials, or other subjects related to residential, commercial, and industrial construction.

The preferred candidate should be able to:

+ Demonstrate hands-on experience with construction techniques, common tools, and lab management skills necessary to teach major specific courses with a laboratory component. Contribute to growing the construction management program, including development of an external lab and teaching resources, curriculum development, and gaining ACCE accreditation in the future.

+ Teach face-to-face and online courses.

+ Teach courses that may occur on weekends and/or evenings.

+ Work collaboratively with other departments, the school and college, and internal and external stakeholders, partners, alumni, and other constituents.

+ Demonstrate proficiency in software relevant to the construction industry such as BIM , BlueBeam, Primavera P6, Procore, RSMeans, etc.

+ Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

+ Prioritize student learning and engagement through the development of transformative learning experiences.

+ Demonstrate capacity to seek internal and external funding for the construction management program.

Work schedule will require travel and will include evening and weekend activities..

Salary Information Commensurate with Experience

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
