Your Role and Responsibilities
The position is for a Research Scientist (RS) / Research Staff Member (RSM) position in the Packaging Fabrication Group at the IBM TJ Watson Research Laboratory in Yorktown Heights, NY. The ideal candidate would have a graduate degree in physics, chemistry, materials or electrical engineering or a related engineering program. This job entails both a high degree of autonomy and the ability to work well with others in a high-pressure research and development environment, with key deliverables and milestones planned throughout the year. The mission of this group is to develop and implement new packaging schemes for quantum computers, artificial intelligence, and other state of the art technologies. It is expected that the candidate would present and/or publish selected work as well as file for patent protection where applicable. The candidate will be a part of a team in the Microelectronics Research Laboratory (MRL), which provides world class 200mm wafer scale fabrication services to multiple clients including Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence Center in Albany, as well as multiple Joint Development clients with projects in Health Care and Life science, and the Internet of Things.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
+ The ideal candidate would have a graduate degree in physics, chemistry, materials or electrical engineering or a related engineering program, and good organizational, communication and presentation skills.
+ Familiarity with semiconductor processing is important, specifically semiconductor packaging.
+ The capability of developing new processes and learning semiconductor packaging tools quickly is key.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Analytical and software skills for gathering large amounts of data, analyzing the data and automating the process will be needed. The RSM will drive new processes and process improvements optimizing tool use through inspection and metrology, with a goal of tighter quality distribution, higher efficiency (throughput improvements) and greater yield, collaborating with packaging engineers.
